"Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.” ~ A. A. Milne
Have you ever felt something was missing? Have you ever wondered what it is? Maybe it’s YOU. Maybe, just maybe, that deepest part of you, your light, your brilliance, is hiding inside, just like mine was. Perhaps it’s time to look over the rail of your bridge.
When you speak with someone that teaches yoga or has a passion for it, you may hear the same story over and over. Something happens when you look inside yourself. When you shine a light on your own magnificence, it’s difficult to remain in the dark, to live with pain or to stay in a place that is not authentic to you. I have found that yogic practices are that light.
I believe that each of us has the ability to practice yoga in a way that helps illuminate that inner light and allow us to navigate gently through our bodies for a more pain-free existence.
My journey to becoming a yoga teacher has been that of a lifetime. Like so many others, I sought the practice of yoga to relieve pain from a back injury. In addition to the physical benefits of added strength and flexibility, I found that meditation and Pranayama (breathing exercise) relieved my anxiety and stress. I was able to connect with myself in a way that brought more clarity to my mind and more peace to my relationships. My inner self was shining through and showing me there is a better way – follow it. So, I did.
In 2009, after years of sharing the benefits of yoga and what I was experiencing with anyone that was willing to listen, I graduated as a certified 200hr yoga teacher from the Infinite Light Yoga School and am registered with Yoga Alliance. In an effort to continue my education, I have taken meditation workshops as well as a series on the practices of the Pradipika – an ancient yogic text. I am a level II Reiki practitioner trained under Don Brennan and Mary Riposo as well as a Level 1 practitioner of Integrated Energy Therapy. I feel that this knowledge and connection with the energies that surround us, aid my desire to help people feel their best. In January of 2014, I began my journey toward my 500hr yoga training at the Kripalu Center and I look forward to sharing the benefits of these trainings with my students.
I offer safe and detailed instruction to create an opportunity for each student to connect with their true self. I hope to bring students in touch with their bodies and quiet their minds – truly connecting body, mind and heart. To me, yoga is not just moving the body, but it is getting to know the body; going to a deeper level and making discoveries that can only be found by going inward. As I age, I realize the benefits of yoga even more intensely. Before I step onto my mat in the morning I feel every one of my years, but as I move through the asanas, testing my strength, going to my edge, or lingering in a delicious stretch, the years melt away and I feel younger..energized..peaceful. Before every session I teach, I pray to bring that same awareness to my students. My yoga interests are varied and so are my teachings. I will guide you through postures that are sometimes gentle & nurturing, or postures that build strength and focus, but always with loving attention and modifications as needed.
I am happy to offer individual sessions for students who are tentative to join a class or would like individual attention. I love the interaction that a one-on-one session brings, as it gives me an opportunity to know the specific needs of a student so we can work together to develop a yoga plan that meets those needs.
I know that with loving instruction, yoga is for everyone. What will you find, if you look inside?
