At the end of my first yoga class approximately 15 years ago, I could not believe how good I felt: energized yet relaxed, centered, joyful, ALIVE! My next thought was, “I need this every day!” In addition to continuing to take classes, I worked with some excellent resources at home, developing what I craved: a daily experience of the benefits of yoga. Slowly, while my body became stronger and more flexible, so did my mind and spirit. I felt calmer, more joyful, more loving and connected to others in my life and to life itself.
The more I learn in yoga, the more I want to learn! I have taken different styles of classes in a variety of places. When I attended my first seminar at the Himalayan Institute, I began to glimpse the vast richness the yoga tradition offers, and how it enhances every part of my life. I continue to study and learn as much as I can about the teachings of yoga.
After retiring from full-time school teaching I was finally able to follow my dream of completing 200 hour yoga teacher training. In 2016, I earned my yoga teaching certification at Infinite Light Yoga (RYS). I absolutely believe in the ILY philosophy that yoga can be done by everyone, and so chose to learn to teach their signature multi-level classes which provide options for students. I’ve also completed several modules of training to teach children’s yoga through Grounded Yoga for Kids, and have worked with other local children’s yoga teachers.
When I began taking riding lessons, I kept thinking (and saying to instructors), “This is yoga!” The parallels in the two disciplines are amazing, and I’m always discovering more. Both practices require me to use my body, mind and energy through centered, mindful movement and breathing. I began incorporating Yoga for Equestrians exercises into my daily yoga practice. Yoga provides me a way to practice riding skills when I can’t ride.
I am excited to teach yoga! The practice provides amazing physical and mental health benefits as well as a key to self-awareness. Yoga has enhanced every part of my life, and I want to share that joy with others.
